Full Metal Jacket
Description
This image is from a series of four created for Pete’s 2014 Thud, Crackle, Pop exhibition. Each one of these paintings explores a specific genre of music through the portrayal of a record store. Full Metal Jacket represents music from the metal and rock genre and includes iconic albums such as Metallica’s Master of Puppets, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon and Black Sabbath’s Heaven and Hell. When deciding on a list of records Pete asked metal expert Dave Shack. Shack, who has management connections to Iron Maiden, was also a former writer for the rock, punk and heavy metal music magazine Kerrang!
Pete named this work after Stanley Kubrick’s 1987 film Full Metal Jacket. It also references the attire worn by metal fans. Their denim jackets are transformed into ‘full metal’ ones once they are adorned with patches representing the various metal bands they love.
Originally created for the 2014 Thud, Crackle, Pop Exhibition.
